Lawang Sewu (1.000 Doors) Historical Building at Central Java - Indonesia

Semarang is one of the Dutch colonial cities. The city is located in Central Java and is the capital city. Semarang is very interesting, because it is a legacy city from the Dutch East Indies government which ruled before 1945,

One of the interesting buildings in Semarang is LAWANG SEWU. This building is a Dutch heritage that was used as a railway airline office. The people of Semarang call this building LAWANG SEWU which means 1000 doors. Why is that, because this building has many doors.

The Indonesian government uses this building as an asset of PT KAI (Indonesian railroad). Currently used as a museum. During the Japanese colonial era, this building was used as an office and prison.

There is one interesting part of the LAWANG SEWU building, namely the dungeon. In the past, the basement was used as a prison, even though its main function was to control room temperature and water channels.

Currently LAWANG SEWU is a tourist destination and there is a museum on the history of railways in Indonesia. In some corners LAWANG SEWU is widely used as a location for colossal film making. If you are interested in coming to Semarang, don't forget to stop at LAWANG SEWU. You can count the number of doors.
